SCMS Centre for Socio-Economic Research(SCENSER) is an initiative which came out of the thrust which SCMS gives for research on topics having high Socio-Economic relevance in the Society. It started its operations in the year 2003 and has a separate Head, ably assisted by a team of experienced researchers and trainers. The centre undertakes research studies, market surveys, feasibility studies, management consultancy and human resource development and training in India and abroad.
Some of the Management Development Programmes held recently were for State Bank of India, Kerala State Financial Enterprises, Carborandum Universal, MILMA, Coconut Development Board, India Post, Allianz Cornhill, Indian Oil Dealers and for Managers of Retail Outlets. Some of the training programmes under planning are for ONGC Executives, HPCL Dealers etc. National Skill Development in Retails and Stores Operations are also under consideration by Kudumbashree, a State Mission Programme.
In terms of research the Centre has undertaken projects like the
Impact Assessment Study of the Numma Oonu Project for Petronet LNG Ltd., Impact assessment study of Nypunyam project for Petronet LNG Ltd, a Social Isolation in Old- Among Pacific-Rim Countries - a multi-country study , Developing a Profile of Short Duration Migrant Laborers in Ernakulam District- A project funded by ICSSR, Patient Logistics Management System - Design and Implementation, a project executed as part of Rural Innovation Fund (RIF) promoted by the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai and Microsoft Corporation, Projects for Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. in association with Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Project to conduct a Socio economic Survey , various projects for Milk Marketing Federation of Kerala to name a few.
School of Communication and Management Studies (SCMS) was established in 1976 with the objective of preparing the younger generation to occupy responsible positions in organization, to widen their horizon of knowledge and to equip them with all the necessary skills to become managers and mass communication experts. SCMS Group under the dynamic leadership of Dr. G.P.C. Nayar has sharp focus on rendering high quality education whether it is undergraduate studies or Doctoral programmes. At present this unit of SCMS Group is headed by Mr. Baiju Radhakrishnan, Group Director.

Within a span of 12 years, SCENSER has earned a name as the leader in this field in Kerala. It has a handful of assignments any time of the year from India, Middle East, Saudi Arabia, or USA. SCRCT is a consultant to Asian Development Bank for South Asia Region.
