Overview
The primary focus of the department is to impart technical know-how to students, promote their problem solving skills by the blended mixture of excellent academic credential holding faculty members and lab staff with highest skills.

List Of Subjects
The external theory examination of all semesters shall be conducted by the University at the end of each semester. Internal evaluation is to be done by continuous assessment. Forall courses without practical total marks of external examination is 80 and total marks ofinternal evaluation is 20. Marks distribution for external and internal assessments and thecomponents for internal evaluation with their marks are shown below:

Assignments are to be done from 1st to 4th Semesters. At least one assignment should be done in each semester for all courses.
A student shall present a seminar in the 5th semester for each paper and appear for Viva-voce in the 6th semester for each course.
Two test papers are to be conducted in each semester for each course. The evaluations of all components are to be published and are to be acknowledged by the candidates. Why Study At SCMS ?
Fortunately, SCMS Institute of Bioscience & Biotechnology – Research & Development (SIBB-R&D) is a confluence of the three and is promoted by SCMS Group which has a track record for excellence. The laboratory facilities that have been established in the campus at Management House, South Kalamassery in Cochin is one of the finest in the country. All the latest machinery and lab equipments are in place to ensure a state-of-the-art research environment to scientists.
Established with an investment of Rs.750 lakhs at the SCMS Group’s own premises, the facilities are multi functional and multi dimensional. The facilities are open to researchers and students and also students who want to specialize in latest biotech areas. High quality research leading to production and patenting of Bioproducts, Recombinant proteins, Industrial enzymes, Transgenic crops, Plant Made Pharmaceuticals (PMP) and Nutraceuticals are the domains of SIBB-R&D. A student Customer Service Centre and a Professional Training Centre for Teachers & Researchers are the other attractions of the Institute.
WORKSHOP
Students are provided with facilities for Smithy, Carpentry, Foundry and basic Electrical Works. The workshop also has Lathes, Drilling Machines, Round Saw etc. which will provide hands-on experience to each of the students.
SURVEY LAB
The Survey Lab has acquired a TOTAL STATION, to expose students to the latest technologies in surveying. Added to that, sufficient number of Theodolites, Levelling Instruments, Plane Tables and other measuring equipments are also provided for the students.
ELECTRICAL LAB
Our Electrical Lab is equipped with DC series motor, DC Shunt Motor, Motor Generator set, Slip Ring Induction Motor, Transformers, Universal Motor, Single Phase Induction Motor etc., for students to conduct various experiments..
COMPUTER LAB
The computer lab has around 60 terminals on a LAN, with the necessary peripherals and INTERNET connectivity. Latest licensed software like MS Office, Windows NT, Oracle, Visual Studio are made available.
PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY LAB
Fully-equipped Physics and Chemistry labs are set up for the use of students on par with the curriculum.
LIBRARY
A collection of nearly 5000 books on relevant technology subjects is available at the library. The library also subscribes to a variety of national and international technical journals. Since it is open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days, students can make full use of the facility.
FAB LAB
We have a FAB LAB equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools with the aim to make almost anything. The innovative ideas or concepts of the students and faculty become a reality here.
