As a reflection of the social responsibility of Kochi Metro towards urban sustainability, a water audit has begun at Metro stations today to account for the optimum water usage and to identify the opportunities for its conservation. Water audit is part of a larger goal of developing a water policy for Kochi metro. Feasibility for rainwater harvesting at metro stations and viaducts will also be assessed at each metro stations and viaducts. This study is conducted with the technical support from SCMS Water Institute, Kochi as per a MoU signed with KMRL last month. A team of M.Tech environmental engg. Students from SCMS School of Engineering and Technology will meticulously analyze the water demand, supply and consumption patterns at each of the stations and provide recommendations for efficient usage of available water.
