Design of a Drinking Water Treatment Unit at Njattuvetti, Cheranalloor

Njattuvetti is a part of Cheranalloor Grama Panchayat located on the side on NH 17 with approximately 59 households. For drinking water, the majority of the households depend on public taps provided by the Kerala Water Authority.  Almost all households have wells but the water from most of these wells was reported to have high turbidity, colour and sewage pollution thereby making it unfit for any potable use. During summer seasons Njattuvetti faces acute drinking water scarcity due to inconsistent pumping to public taps and an increase in iron content in its groundwater. SCMS Water Institute (SWI) was directed by Honourable Shri Hibi Eden M.L.A to undertake a water survey in this part of Cheranalloor Panchayat and propose a small-scale decentralized water treatment unit as the solution to the drinking water crisis faced by the public in Njattuvetti. Based on the results from the survey conducted in this area a design for the water treatment plant wae proposed.
