SCMS Water Institute has been selected by the Groundwater Department, Govt of Kerala for providing research support for eliminating mineral deposition within the irrigation pipelines at the calcified zones of Palakkad district. It is a serious problem faced by farmers in the Chittor (Palakkad) area who use groundwater for irrigation. The groundwater will provide Rs 10.8 lakhs for this experimental study. Mineral deposition in the irrigation pipelines is a major problem causing great loss of revenue for the farmers in this region. This project has great scope for government departments namely Groundwater, Irrigation and Agriculture. The duration of the work is one year. The National Hydrology Project ( NHP) Govt of India to the Groundwater Department funds the project.
Prof. Pramod P Thevanoor, Vice Chairman of SCMS Group of Educational Institutions, and Dr. Lal Thompson (Sr. Hydrogeologist, Groundwater Directorate, Thiruvananthapuram) signed the agreement of experimental study on March 1, 2023, at SCMS Corporate office. Dr. Anitha G Pillai, Principal, SSET and Dr. Sunny George, Director, SCMS Water Institute participated in the ceremony.
