Prof. John Tharakan

John Tharakan, Ph.D., is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Howard University. With an impressive educational background, he obtained his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1982. Continuing his academic pursuits, he pursued his MS in Engineering Science with a specialization in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, California, in 1983. Dr. Tharakan further enhanced his expertise by completing his Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering at the same institution in 1986.

Dr. Tharakan’s research interests are wide-ranging, encompassing various areas such as Kinetics and Reactor Design, Environmental Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioenvironmental Engineering, Engineering Education, Sustainable Development, Appropriate Technology, and Ethics in Science and Engineering. His dedication to these fields is evident through his numerous contributions to academia and research.
