The concept of providing a versatile water map for the areas falling under Irinjalakuda Assembly constituency was proposed by Prof (Dr.) Bindu, Hon. Minister of Higher Education and Member of Legislative Assembly, Irinjalakuda constituency. As per this proposal, SCMS Water Institute has developed a GIS map that marks all water resource assets like drinking water production units of KWA, the water distribution network of KWA, individual water supply schemes, open wells, bore wells and other water sources. A strategy and scheme were also prepared for which total drinking water requirement in future and availability of all dependable sources to meet the demand are assimilated scientifically. The project was done as a teamwork of LSGIs, government departments, SCMS Water Institute, Karukutty and all volunteers. The short-term goals of the project were completed now, and the long-term objectives like the Modernization of the existing distribution network for smart decision-making; Improving water delivery mechanism, water security & sustainability have to be done in future.
