Teaching and Learning

At SSTM, the faculty selectively choose the method that is best suited for the subject. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to make the students understand and experience the business problems and find their creative and feasible solutions.. Lectures, case study and presentation, situation handling and role plays, simulation games and exercises, brainstorming, group discussions, video sessions, game plays, quiz programmes and practical project work are commonly used. These help students to have an integrative experience and experiential learning designed to develop students into leaders ready to tackle the challenges of today’s global business environment.

Today’s business landscape is complex and changing. Navigating and manoeuvring it is critical. And a combination of soft and hard skills is often at the heart of this. Having a mentor, usually a person, who has more experience, provides an opportunity to glean an understanding of the best ways to accomplish this. At SCMS, we offer mentoring/counselling to students. Immediately after admission, the students are divided into groups of 4 or 5. Each group is assigned to a faculty member who will be their mentor for the remaining two years.

At SSTM, Industrial visits are arranged for students with an objective of providing students functional opportunity in different sectors like IT, Manufacturing and services, finance and marketing. Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge. As part of the syllabus, we conduct industrial visits for students in three semesters. Industrial visits offer a great source to gain practical knowledge. Students can observe and learn as to how theatrical concepts are put to into action, thereby aiding their practical learning.

The assessment criteria include internal assessment tests, assignments, attendance and class participation. The instructor will make available on LAN clear guidelines regarding the assessment criteria to the class before the commencement of the course. The internal assessment results will be published on the notice board and the students will be given at least a week to have clarifications, if any, before the external examination for the semester.

For all the courses, a written examination of the duration of three hours would be conducted at the end of each semester. Each examination carries a maximum of 80 marks. The end term examination is conducted by the Mahatma Gandhi University. The student is required to secure a separate minimum of 30% marks each for internal and external (for both theory and practical). The student is required to secure an aggregate minimum of 35% for a pass for a course. For a pass in a programme, the student is required to secure a separate minimum of grade D for all the individual courses. Students who complete the programme with “D” grade will have one betterment chance within 12 months, immediately after the publication of the result of the whole programme.
