SWI led a 3 session design workshop for ISOLA, 2019

As per the invitation from Indian Society of Landsacpe Architects (ISOLA), New Delhi, SCMS Water Institute led a 3 session workshop titled “ Flow of Nature” at the International Conference of Landscape Architects held at Lulu Grand Hyatt Kochi Boulghatty on 15th & 16th Feb, 2019. On 15th, Dr.Sunny George followed by Dr.Ratish Menon introduced the Urban Natural Canal Live Project outlining the existing scenario along the Thevara Perandoor canal primarily on the stretch along Panampilly Nagar as a case study of Urban Hydrology. It was concluded with the design priorities that must be taken into consideration for the upcoming group discussion exercises. On 16th, the participants were grouped into 3 for landscape design group work. First group worked on the improvement of the relationship of people with water by providing a front door accessible waterfront. The second group focused on the restoration of biodiversity along the waste watershed of the canal. And the topic of discussion for third group was the effects that a “do nothing” scenario could bring about in the canal. There were also discussions on improvement of collection and cleaning of the stormwater and wastewater in the watershed as well as introduction of an active water way through the canal. The group discussions were carried out under the guidance of SWI along with Ar Jelly Therry (UK) and Prof. Ramachandra ( IISc, Bangalore).The recommendations of the workshop will be submitted by ISOLA, New Delhi to Kerala State Government.
