As per the invitation of Sree Sankara University, Kalady, SWI gave a presentation of Flood Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan for Meloor Panchayat at the Kerala Sahithya Academy, Thrissur on 13th Sept. The audience comprised of reputed historians and environmental scientists from all over Kerala. They all appreciated the work of SCMS very much and opined that, this kind of initiatives at local self government level is exactly what is needed and that alone will be practically viable and effective for the future. In a highly participatory manner, SWI could explicitly collect the flood level data both in terms of space and time and re-create the actual flood happened in this local body into the GIS plateform, to be used as a decision support system which was verified and approved by the local body. This is going to be a model for other flood affected local self governments of the State
