The institution is committed to advancing technology, addressing societal needs, ensuring the safety of health and the environment, and safeguarding intellectual property. The SSET Research and Development Cell coordinates and facilitates research activities across departments and serves as a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, and scholarly excellence within the institution.

Research at SSET spans a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary domains, reflecting the institution’s commitment to addressing contemporary technological and societal challenges. Key research areas include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, internet of things, robotics, brain–machine interfaces, image processing, wireless communication, composites, industrial engineering, hydrodynamics, mechanical vibrations, environmental engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, automotive electronics, electrical engineering, and inorganic chemistry. Faculty members and students actively engage in research that contributes to technological advancement and practical solutions for industry and society.

The institution promotes interdisciplinary and application-oriented research through its two Centres of Excellence, the SCMS Water Institute and the SCMS Institute for Road Safety and Transportation (SIRST). These centres facilitate collaborative research initiatives, encourage industry engagement, and provide specialized platforms for addressing critical issues related to water resources, transportation safety, and emerging technological systems.

At SSET, nurturing the next generation of researchers and innovators is a key priority. The institution supports faculty members and students through hands-on research opportunities, technical workshops, distinguished lectures by internal and external experts, seminars, conferences, Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), mentorship initiatives, and research funding opportunities. These initiatives foster critical thinking, creativity, and active participation in the global research ecosystem.

Research outcomes at SSET are widely disseminated through publications in reputed journals, conference presentations, patents, and collaborations with scholars and researchers around the world. The Research and Development Cell provides strategic guidance and institutional support to ensure the growth, quality, and impact of research activities.

SSET is recognized as an approved Place of Research under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and offers Ph.D. programmes in several disciplines, including Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Through these doctoral programmes and its strong research culture, SSET continues to contribute significantly to knowledge creation, technological innovation, and societal development.
